Applying HTML Title Tags

HTML page title tags are one of the most important things to focus on in order to get a front page ranking. Page names should always mirror keywords used in the Heading tags/page text keywords/URL address/meta tag keywords and description. For example, if your HTML page title is Buy Swimming Pools – Perth WA your URL address should be www.yourdomain.com.au/buy-swimming-pools. The more accurate and descriptive your HTML Title Tags (and the rest mentioned above) the less competition there will be, and the higher your site will appear in the rankings.

Tips For Creating HTML Title Tags

  • You have a 60 character limit so use it wisely, don’t include useless words or slogansS
  • Search engines read like we do, from left to right, so slightly more importance is given to the keywords on the left than on the right
  • Use your keywords twice in  different combinations
  • Business names are not really necessary to use except after the 60 character limit, because we all rank well for our exact domain name anyway so there is no SEO advantage on including your business name
  • Select the keywords that best describe your page. Try to think of keywords which would be entered by users searching for your product/service
  • Ensure there is a direct correlation between HTML title tags, on page heading titles, URL address, meta tag keywords, meta tag descriptions, ALT image attributes and page text.
